Can I eat or drink on the day of the test?
- DO NOT eat or drink anything except water for at least four hours before the test.
- DO NOT consume coffee or any other drinks except water.
- DO NOT have any chewing gum.
What should I wear on the day of the test?
- Avoid wearing any metal.
- Dress comfortably.
What should I do if I am claustrophobic?
- Claustrophobic patients should bring their appropriate medication with them (arranged with ordering physician)
Should I take my medications on the day of the test?
- You should continue taking your medications with water ONLY.
If you have diabetes:
- Ensure to check your blood sugar before leaving the house. If your blood sugar is above 200 mg/dl, please contact us as you may need to reschedule. If your scan is scheduled later in the day, you may eat a low-carbohydrate breakfast, leaving four hours without eating or drinking prior to your appointment. Consuming water is okay. .
If you have diabetes and are on insulin:
- Please contact us on (02) 311-1006 to discuss with the Clinical Team about how you should take your insulin. The general rule is long-acting insulin (Lantis) should not be taken within 10 hours of your appointment, and short-acting insulin should not be taken within four hours of your appointment. It is best if you call us to speak with one of our Nuclear Medicine Technologists or Nurses to ensure you understand completely how to take your insulin.
Please follow general guidelines below:
TWO DAYS (48 HOURS) BEFORE THE TEST:
- Avoid strenuous activity or exercise for 48 hours prior to the appointment.
ONE DAY (24 HOURS) BEFORE THE TEST:
- Please eat meals low in carbohydrates the day before the appointment.
- Avoid all sweets, juices, cereal, fruit, or bread.
How long will the test last?
The test will take approximately 2-3 hours.
How do I get the results of my test?
After the Nuclear Medicine Radiologist reviews your entire test, the results will be available within two business days. Your doctor will have access to the results and will contact you to discuss them. Please schedule a follow-up appointment with your doctor. If you develop symptoms, please go to the nearest emergency department.
